HISTORY OF THE TENNIS CLUB

Stockholms Tennishall was founded 1976 by Jan-Erik Lundqvist, one of the most treasured and successful Swedish tennis players, of all time. During the construction of the club, a 25-year land lease agreement was made with the municipality of Stockholm and the tennis center was close to being deconstructed 2001. Luckily, this did not happen. The agreement has since been extended, and, following a decision made by the municipality of Stockholm on 13 October 2005, the club is expected to remain indefinitely.

The tennis club is located on historically significant grounds within the sports community. There were nine clay courts at this location as early as the 1930s and adjacent to the tennis center, where Kristinebergs IP can be found today, was the legendary Stockholm Velodrome. Here, bicycle and motorcycle races were held in the 1920s and 1930s, which is yet another testament to the area's long history of sports. And here's a fun fact - the area where Stockholms Tennishall is situated is named "The Tennis Ball.”
